World traveler from the age of 4. Home schooled all the way through 12th grade, Cindy Larson never spent one day in a traditional classroom. Cindy’s family, The Deweys, traveled to thirty-five countries for missions/charity/cultural exchange using their music to share love and the good news of the Gospel to people everywhere. Between the four family members, they played over twenty instruments and would go on to record forty albums before coming off the road in the mid-1980’s.
Making their home in Nashville, Cindy’s family could be found rolling down the highway three weeks out of every month, twelve months a year, for eighteen years. That lifestyle taught her a strong work ethic and respect for people from all backgrounds, ethnicities and social statuses.
After marrying her childhood friend, Mark Larson, Cindy was hired by a large department store in Nashville. She became a Certified Analyst for Chanel Cosmetics and store makeup artist. It was there where Cindy experienced punching a timeclock, lunch and bathroom breaks, and getting along with forty women and one man! This NEW WORLD was a real eye opening experience that still impacts her today.
Cindy went on to be office manager for Matt Davenport/ Eternal Entertainment who produced shows for cruise ships, theme parks, as well as booking weddings. Cindy’s love for details served her well, and balances out the creative side that comes so natural.
In the late 1990’s, Cindy was recruited to be involved with the wellness company Arbonne. This would start a lifelong love affair with the brand. She still finds her role as an advocate, brand rep, educator, and recruiter for Arbonne to be one of the smartest business decisions she has ever made.
Over the years, Cindy’s love for design and fashion has led her into many exciting opportunities. She opened a designer thrift store in Nashville, and still has clients from that endeavor, even though the store closed several years ago.
Put anything ugly in front of Cindy and she will start a makeover. A room, a face, a broken heart, or a discouraged soul. Not only was Cindy’s father in full-time ministry her whole life, there were also 50 other preachers in her extended family as well. Cindy has rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in ministry and music. As a child, she and her sister were considered the youngest regulars of the Grand Ole Opry, and as an adult, they have sung backup on countless, award nominated songs coming out of Nashville’s Music City.
Cindy’s husband Mark, has been a top executive in the entertainer, luxury coach industry for the past thirty-five years. Because of that, Cindy continues to run in some very interesting circles, including being invited to the 2004, Christmas party at the Whitehouse.
A mother of three, and a grandmother of one, Cindy is the kind of momma who can whip up a meal in fifteen minutes for anyone dropping by.
She serves on the board of two non-profits, and regularly donates her time and resources to local organizations when called upon.
Combine the quirky lifestyle of growing up on a bus that didn’t have TV, non-typical “education,” and the fact that Cindy stood on a stage every day of her life and went on to start several successful businesses, and so much more...then you will begin to understand the unique way that she looks at life. Fearless, loyal, funny, creative and kind are the best ways to describe our podcast host, Cindy Dewey Larson.
April Potter knew she was unique at a very early age and she was quite ok with that. Some would say a dreamer…a creative…her perspective and the way she looked at the world was unconventional and interesting: always choosing the positive and possibilities instead of seeing the challenges. She was a true entrepreneur at heart from a very young age.
Growing up in rural North Alabama with a close-knit family that still is very close to this day, something about the Potter name and heritage passed down in music spoke to April as a young child and she knew she would end up in the music/entertainment industry. She began piano lessons at age 8 and frequently sang with her sister and dad at church and area revivals around the area. She dreamed of playing the piano in a gospel group all of her life but when time came for college her aspirations and dreams changed from performing to a behind-the-scenes role.
She was the first intern for the newly formed record company Chapel Music (later renamed SpringHill Music) owned by Bill Gaither, popular writer and producer of The Gaither Homecoming Video Series. She interned in A&R (Artist and Repertoire) and Marketing which would be her area of choice. After graduation, she was offered several positions but ended up taking a position as road nanny and office assistant for gospel/bluegrass/country artist Jeff and Sheri Easter. Even though April loved the road life, she was eager to put her new music business degree to full use in Nashville…the place she always dreamed of living.
At the time, Ed Harper of the Harper Agency was looking for a new, young, female booking agent to train and April was recommended and got the job. April never intended to stay in booking/touring but it was an open door at the time so she walked through it and met a lot of people both on the road and in town. She was there 6 years before leaving to form her own booking agency, April Potter Agency, in 2002. After adopting her daughter from Guatemala, April returned to the Harper Agency from 2010-2012 and worked as a freelance agent, consultant and other various roles before reforming April Potter Agency in 2016.
Located in Nashville, Tennessee, April Potter Agency represents a broad array of talent that has performed at arenas, stadiums, auditoriums, churches, fairs, festivals, schools, casinos, city events, corporate events, coffee-houses, conferences, theme parks, cruise ships and other venues. April has worked with artists in many genres including Rock, Country, Christian, Gospel, Bluegrass, most recently making a name in the tribute band world working with some of the most well-known artists in the world.
Since May of 2016, and the relaunch of April Potter Agency, April has continued to expand the agency from tour scheduling to artist management. She later added event planning, social media, marketing, branding and promoting and changed the name to April Potter Entertainment. The company is quickly becoming one of the most sought out companies in the industry focusing heavily on repeat business and expanding relationships with buyers/clients.
One of the highlights of her career came in 2020 when she wrote the original story and coordinated the publicity of her father, Terrell Potter’s, kidney transplant journey which ended up going viral world-wide and made headlines in every major news and print network in 27+ countries. The story was unique in the fact that Potter, a retired police officer, was given a kidney from a girl whom he had arrested years earlier. The story was originally picked up by Rick Karle of channel 13 news in Birmingham, AL and went on to air on World News, NBC Nightly News, Fox News, Guideposts, Woman’s World, New York Post, Vanderbilt University Medical Center Voice, People, Police1, NDTV, Tamron Hall Show, iHeartRadio, India Times, The Logical Indian, The Today Show, GOD TV, OnStar, Daily Star, Police Magazine, Opera News Africa, The Western Journal, Dr. Oz Show and numerous others.
Potter, a Franklin County, Alabama native and Music Business graduate of University of North Alabama, currently resides in Nashville. April serves on the board of directors for the nonprofit Music Amplifies. When not on the road or in the office, she enjoys Krav Maga (Israeli Hand-to-Hand Combat), Alabama Football…ROLL TIDE, shopping at thrift stores, exploring new places, mission work, adoption, hiking, the beach and spending time with family and friends.
This podcast is a new journey for April, changing seats from behind-the-scenes to front and center. April brings a unique perspective to the table with her love for people and networking and connecting with others. Most would say she is loving, innovative, creative, resourceful, insightful and a big dreamer. She has both sides of the brain, to not only creatively dream the dream and cast the vision but to also put the steps in place to achieve anything set before her.
